Abercorn FC

Abercorn FC

Abercorn FC was a former Scottish League team, based in Paisley. Founded in 1877, they reached the semi-final stage of the first ever Scottish FA Cup only to be thrashed 1-10 by Cambuslang. One of the eleven original members of the Scottish Football League, they had to apply for re-election in each of their first three seasons before being placed in the new Second Division when it was formed for the 1893-94 season. They joined the Western League during the First World War where they competed until 1920 when the lease on their New Ralston Ground expired. Unable to secure a new home, Abercorn resigned from the Western League the following season.  The club continued to exist until 29 March 1922 when it was expelled from the Scottish FA because it was unable to fulfil any fixtures.
