Accrington Stanley FC was an English football club from Accrington in Lancashire formed in 1891. Originally called Stanley Villa, named after the Stanley Arms on Stanley Street in Accrington, they took the town name after the demise of Accrington FC. Based in Peel Park, they entered the League in 1921 with the formation of the old Third Division North, along with the other top northern non-League clubs. After the Second World War, Accrington Stanley survived two re-elections, but mounting debts led the club to resign from the League in 1962 when they became only the second club to resign from the Football League in mid-season. They went into liquidation into 1966 while playing in the Lancashire Combination. It has no connection to the current club of the same name.
