Aldershot FC was an English football club from the Hampshire town of that name which is closely associated with the British Army. Nicknamed the Shots, the club was a member of the League from 1932 to 1992. Formed in 1926, Aldershot was admitted to the Southern League (East Section) the following year. In 1930, they won the Southern League Championship and two years later they were admitted to the Football League. The club remained in Division Three (South) until 1958 when they became members of the newly created Fourth Division. It was not until 1973 that Aldershot won promotion for the first time. They were relegated three years later. The club returned to Divison Three in the late 80s where they remained for two seasons before relegation in 1989. In July 1990, Aldershot was briefly wound up as a going concern but days later won a reprieve when Spencer Trethewy, a 19-year old property developer and supporter of the club, invested £200,000. The club finally resigned from the League in March 1992 for financial reasons, making them the first side to do so since Accrington Stanley in the early 1960s.
