Welsh team Barry Town FC dates back to 1892 when a club entitled Barry and Cadoxton District was formed in the area. During the early years the club played onplayed on five different grounds asgrounds as Barry Unionist Athletic, Barry United Athletic and Barry District. In November 1912, the club reformed as Barry AFC (the 'Town' suffix was added in 1931), secured a lease on land owned by the Jenner family (now known as Jenner Park) and joined the Southern League. The club retained membership of the Southern League for more than 60 years - their highest finishing place being fourth in the 1930s. From 1993 they played in the League of Wales. In 2003 Barry Town went into administration and dropped to the third tier of Welsh football. The club is perhaps best known for its exploits in Europe during the 1990s ands early 2000s representing Wales as winners of the Welsh League and Welsh Cup.
