Bootle FC was a Former English League football club which have the distinction of being the first team to drop out of the League. They were based in Bootle, Merseyside in Liverpool. In 1889/90 Bootle became founder members of the Football Alliance. That season was their most successful as they finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they lost to Blackburn Rovers, and had their record attendance when 20,000 watched their Boxing Day home friendly game against local rivals Everton. When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. Despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season (and were replaced by neighbours Liverpool) due to financial problems.
