Brechin City FC is a Scottish football team based in Brechin, Angus. The club was founded in 1906 through the amalgamation of two local junior sides - Brechin Harp and Brechin Hearts. The team was admitted to the Scottish league in 1923 but returned to non-league competition when the Third Division was abandoned in 1926. The club returned to the League in 1929 and spent most seasons before the Second World War near the bottom of the table. When the Scottish League resumed in 1946, Brechin were placed in the new Division C (third tier), which comprised mainly of reserve sides. In 1954 they were champions and earned their first ever promotion. During the 1950s the team finished regularly in the top six and won the Qualifying Cup in 1951. The following decades were less successful with the club finishing bottom of the League seven times between 1962 and 1974. It was therefore no surprise when they were placed in the new Second Division (now the third tier) when the league was restructured after the creation of the Scottish Premier Division in 1975. In 1983 the club won a second championship and promotion to the First Division (second tier). After four seasons at this level, City went down once more and for the next few seasons they bounced between the third and second tier, dropping into the new Third Division (fourth tier) in 1995 only to return the following season. In recent years they have bounced between the Third and Second Divisions on a regular basis. This run ended with promotion to the championship during the 2016-17 season. During the 2017-18 Brechin City suffered the ignominy of enduring an entire season without a win and dropped out of the Championship. They were relegated again the following season and in May 2021 lost 3-1 on aggregate to Lowland League side Kelty Hearts and dropped into the Highland League. Brechin play at Glebe Park, which has a capacity of 3,960 (1,519 seated) and is famous for the hedge that runs alongside one side of the pitch.
