Bury FC English football club based in the town of Bury Greater Manchester. It was one of the most powerful teams of the Edwardian period. The Club was formed in 1885 at a meeting in the Swan and Cemetery public house and in 1889 they were founder members of the Lancashire League. Before a Lancashire Senior Cup match against Everton, the club chairman JT Ingham announced, "We'll give 'em a shakin'. In fact, we are the Shakers." This has remained the club's nickname to this day. Bury joined the Football League Second Division in 1894, which they won at the first attempt. They beat Liverpool in a play-off to clinch promotion to Division One where they stayed until 1912. Bury won the FA Cup twice, in 1900 they beat Southampton 4-0 at Crystal Palace and in 1903 they won the Cup without conceding a goal in the entire competition, including a 6-0 defeat of Derby County in the Final – which remained a record until 2019 when Manchester City defeated Watford by the same score.
