Galston FC
Galston FC was a former Scottish football club which dropped out of the League in 1925 after just two years. Based at Portland Park in Galston, East Ayrshire, the club was formed in 1891 and played in the Ayrshire League during its early history before joining the Scottish Football Combination and Scottish Football Union. According to the Glasgow Evening Post, for 22 August 1892, they quickly established themselves as a formidable team: 'Galston - the coming men - the terrors presently of the shire - have left their trig little town to do battle against the men who were wont to teach them how to play that sort of game called football. Now the pupils fancy they are as good as their masters, and even the latter have doubts as to how they will fare against the burly Galstonians, whose slogging style threatens to upset the calculations of more than one good Aryshire team this season.' After beating Hurlford 3-2, the Glasgow Evening Post declared 'the play of the Galston FC will surprise a few people this season. Quick and impulsive, they surprise opponents, and give no rest.' The club later played in the Ayrshire Combination, the North Ayrshire League, The Scottish Football Comination and then the Scottish Football League before the First World War. The Club joined the Western League, which was incorporated by the Scottish Football League as its new Third Division for the 1923–24 season. Galston lasted the Division's three seasons, finishing 13th, 11th and 16th, although they resigned midway through the chaotic final season, unable to provide match guarantees. After playing in the West of Scotland Amateur League and then the Scottish Football Alliance the club was finally wound up at the beginning of the Second World War.
