Huddersfield Town FC is an English league team from the town of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The club was formed in 1908 and joined the Football League in 1910. Huddersfield spent 10 years in the Second Division before rising to the top flight for the first time in 1920, at what proved to be the start of the side’s golden era under legendary manager Herbert Chapman. He arrived at the club’s home at Leeds Road in 1921 and transformed the side between then and his departure for Arsenal in 1925. Huddersfield Town won the FA Cup in 1922 and then stormed to triumph in three successive League championships between 1924 and 1926 under their highly talented captain Clem Stephenson. They were runners-up in the League in 1923 and subsequently in 1927 and 1928 before their glory years finally came to an end. Immediately after the war, Huddersfield began to struggle. They spent one season in the Second Division (1952-53) but bounced back immediately. Huddersfield were relegated again in 1956 and spent the next 14 seasons in the Second Division (four years under the management of Bill Shankly). They returned to the First Division briefly in 1970 but this was followed by a catastrophic decline and by 1975, they were in the Fourth Division. In 1980, Huddersfield won the Fourth Division title and three seasons later they were promoted back to the Second Division.
