Maidstone United FC was a former English football club based in the town of Maidstone, Kent, which was a member of the League from 1989 to 1992. Founded in 1897 they were professional until 1927 and then continued on an amateur basis until 1971, when they joined the Southern League. The club, based in Dartford, finally acquired League status in 1989 having won the Conference and in their first League season narrowly missed promotion to the Third Division.  In 1992, however, a major financial crisis and the lack of a home ground, resulted in the club going out of existence.
