Queen's Park is the oldest football club in Scotland, having been founded in 1867.  In 1873, the Scottish Football Association and the Scottish Cup was instituted with Queen's Park as founder members.  In 1872 Queen's Park were invited to take part in the first ever English F.A Cup entering at the semi-final stage against the famous public school side, Wanderers. The game ended goalless. Unable to remain for the replay due to financial constraints, Queen's were compelled to scratch. They reached the FA Cup final in 1884 which was played at the Oval in front of a crown of 14,000. There was crowd trouble before the game, with supporters rushing the gates, and Blackburn were perplexed early in the game by the clever dribbling and close passing of Queen’s Park. But Rovers all-round strength and goals by Joe Sowerbutts and James Forrest earned them a 2-1 victory and the trophy.  finished runners-Queen’s Park reached the final again the following year again playing against Blackburn Rovers. This meeting generated even more interest than the first and was widely seen as an international contest between the best sides in England and Scotland.   This time Queen’s Park succumbed to a goal in each half.  The club did, however, win the Scottish Cup during the first three years of the competition (1874-1876).  In 1887 the Scottish FA banned its members from taking any further part in the FA Cup.
