Wycombe Wanderers Football Club is an English football team from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. The club was founded in 1887 by a group of furniture trade workers. They entered the Southern League Division Two in 1892 and won the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup in 1902 – a trophy they won a record 23 times. Wycombe joined the Southern League in 1908 and in the two seasons after the First World War the club were champions of the Spartan League before joining the Isthmian League in 1921. One of the highlights of the club’s history came in 1930-31 when they won the FA Amateur Cup. Success in the Isthmian League eluded them until 1955-56 when the first championships was won. In 1985, having won the Isthmian League title for the seventh time, Wycombe stepped up to a higher league, winning promotion to the Gola Football Alliance (forerunner of the Conference). In February 1990 Martin O'Neill arrived as manager and the club now mounted a serious challenge for promotion to the Football League. In a triumphant 1992-93 season Wycombe won the FA Trophy for the second year in succession as well as the Conference Championship and promotion to the Football League. Wycombe won promotion to Division Two via the play offs in 1994 and held on until 2004 when they were relegated to League Two (now the third tier of British football). They returned to Division One at the end of the 2008-09 season where they remained for three seasons before relegation in 2011-12. Having narrowly avoided relegation out of the English Football League in 2014, the club’s fortunes improved with promotion from League Two in 2018 and then to the Championship for the first time in the club’s history in 2020. They were however relegated after one season.
